Assemblages

Statement

My art is an investigation of the fragility of memory. With these Assemblages, I explore themes of pathos, memory, and mementos. My parents accumulated objects, emblems of their life, evidence of time passing. In 2021, my siblings and I dismantled our childhood home where my parents resided for over sixty years. This process unearthed objects imbued with silent histories, inspiring me to incorporate these found artifacts into my assemblages. Each piece becomes a vessel for both collective and personal memory. Among the pieces found was a small vintage bottle of ink, empty, in my father’s desk echoing the hollowness of our home.

Each work, embedded with a personal history, undergoes a material metamorphosis to the reimagined. By reframing them I trace a line between the now and the then, seeking an empathic bridge to the ethereal echoes of family. I layer paint and vintage photographs using cyanotype and printmaking processes, integrating deconstructed books, and silk veils to evoke an emotional resonance. Through these one-of-a-kind mixed media objects, I entreat the viewer to pause and contemplate poignant remembrances.
